Tenor and soprano saxophonist Ryo Hashizume performs with a wide variety of musicians in both the United States and in Japan. In the summer of 1998, he toured Japan with his band The Ryo Hashizume Quintet to great critical acclaim. The bands two CDs And Then You Heard Tales and In A Strangers Hand were released in 1997 and 1998 respectively. Ryo has performed and recorded with Kazutoki Umezu, Sandoro Tomasi, Steve Hass, Noriaki Kumagai, Matt Penman, Yusuke Yamamoto, Takana Miyamoto, Noriko Ueda, Keiichi Hashimoto, and Volo Volo the Dynamite band.
In the U.S., he has recorded and performed in clubs and concert halls on the East Coast and in Japan, he appeared in Tokyo, Sapporo, Kobe, Okayama, and Tottori. The recipient of the Festival Award from the Berklee College of Music, Ryo has studied with George Garzone, Jim Odgren, Greg Hopkins, Tony Lada, Andy McGhee, Ken Pullig, Steve Rochinski, Ted Pease and Joe Viola.
